
So, when you look thru the basket holes and see only 7mm or so of coil overhang, remember that is in an inch-tall gap! It really is no joke. It could be in the neighborhood or 20-25mm, total top-plate thickness. Tons of magnet surface area and a huge top plate extension above the 10mm or so thick plate you see the basket mounted to. Naturally, they cost quite a bit more, due to the much more time consuming finishing work and partially because of the doubled material cost. Another view of where the amplifier will be mounted. This is the pre-final sanding stage, after sanding the few filler holes. Here is my “clamp” assembly for the last piece….the top. Here are my chocks, wedged in to hold the waveguide corners in place while the glue dries. A bunch of clamps holding a bunch of wood in place……. Fully assembled binding posts and the Crazy Glue gel I used to secure the final nut on both the posts. Amplifier location with corresponding output-terminal-aligned binding post holes. This is just the binding posts solder tabs with his 12ga speaker wire soldered on. Here’s a quick mock up of the binding posts installed thru a piece of 0.78″ MDF. This way, he has only a few inches to run wire straight out of his amp to each binding post. This way, after finding out which side he ran his power wire down, I can figure out which way the amplifier needed to be spun on the back of the box and where my binding posts needed to be. This screenshot is from the Kicker website, where I had to look up the terminal layout of his amplifier. Cured but with a second joint glue application along the entire perimeter of the compression chamber and inside corner of the wave guide. No mechanical fasteners used on this part.
